More iris folding

Two more attempts at Iris folding. Once I get better at cutting out the outside, I'll be happy. Love the bell, like the shape of the tree. Which do you like better, or do you prefer the Christmas tree decoration one?

Stitched cards

Here is my first attempt at stitched cards. While I am quite pleased with how it has come out, next time I will use a smaller needle (I only had one needle there with me so had no choice). I also may do this onto white card then lay it onto a bolder colour (red or green) as I feel it is a bit of a non-descript card with that much white but overall, I love this idea! This and iris folding were two of the card techniques I gave myself to learn this year so I'm happy-both are done!

Iris folding

It is such a shame this photo is shitty, this card is really cute! It's my first attempt at iris folding. I had a book on it but it wasnt the easiest to understand but I found a great youtube video that explained it so I had a go tonight!

Todays efforts...

This is the same as yesterday's attempts but it was unfinished so I decided I might as well finish it so I can send it to someone.

This design is gonna be one of the three I use this Christmas. This is a bad photo, the green card is a vibrant green like the button.

I thought I'd make it in a different colour. I didnt have a nice white button (read: ANY white buttons) so it's not quite finished.

Christmas card trial designs...

I like to make some Christmas cards that arent all red and green but I'm not sure if I like these enough to make them one of the designs...but someone will get them in the mail.

A night of card making

Here is a card I made tonight, it's for MIL's birthday. Though you cant really tell, there are very shimmery diamantees on the flowers. I quite like how this turned out and it is my favourite card of the night.

This was part of the 2008 Christmas card trial. I doubt it will be one of the three designs, but someone will get this card.

This one was just be playing around. It's going in the drawer for no one in particular because I dont much like it!

Hats and cards

I made this card today. It's not for any specific purpose, I was just fiddling around and this was the outcome. Not my best work but it's ok.

This is my niece's hat. I've already posted a photo of this on my daily blog but like to keep a track of what I make on this one as well.

Baby bib

So what is a girl to do when she is bored but isnt well enough to actually do a lot/go out. When she has cancelled her haircut and the gym and is freezing cold? Grab some material and sew a baby bib of course lol. So I've never made one before, didnt use a pattern and very very rarely do I sew anything so no being mean about it lol.

Lessons I learnt:

Flannelette isnt a thick enough backing (but that happened to be what I had laying around), next time use polarfleece behind it for better water-resistance (aka drool resistance).

The hole you want to stuff it through then sew up, should be hidden not at the very front (duh Heather).

Still, it's cute enough for a round the house bib right?

10 years and one month...

...is how long it took me to finish this latch hook rug! I bought it in June 1998 lol. I should probably qualify it by saying I havent actually picked it up this decade until about a month ago so it didnt actually take ten years to complete lol. This is my second oldest UFO so I am very proud to have finished it moments ago!

Obviously I still need to cut/fold back the edges still but I was so excited I'd finished the stitching (it has between 9000-10,000 individual bits of wool to hook in). Now Flynn will use it as a bed and it wont be white for much longer!

Ryan's blanket!

I finished Ryan's blanket today and I was so excited! I just gave it to him. Before I did, I took photos of it because it is was a massive project making a knee rug. I started this blanket when my dad was in hospital after his first stroke. It kept my hands busy while I sat at his bedside helping him to eat etc...and now it is completed and my dad is at home and independant. Between that, and the fact it is my biggest blanket yet and that it is for my gorgeous hubby makes it a very special UFO to have finished!

I lay it out to take a photo before I gave it to Ryan and Flynn decided he would like to help model it's lovely warmth lol.

This is what it looks like close up, only the colours are all much darker. It's a burgundy red, navy blue and forest green but the flash has made it look lighter.

Yay me! It's all finished!

Orchid cross-stitch completed!

Yay the orchid cross-stitch is completed. It just needs washing, ironing and framing.

It was an interesting cross-stitch, I had to use three strands for the white petals, two for everything else except the leaves and centres of the flowers were one strand.

Pretty isnt it?

Note of love

I think I am going to send this card to my father. I struggled to find a stamp small enough to fit in the little frame but when I found that one, the card just felt like it should be sent to my dad.

The blue ribbon is actually toned with the card but the flash of the camera has made it brighter.

Finished crafts for the long weekend...

The final of the three...a starfish. Did I mention that these had vertical blue lines behind them and I didnt like it so I've done them without it. Looked for frames yesterday but no success. I'll wash and iron them meantime. *note to Chrissy-iron them from the back lol*

Genevieve's bib. I told her mum that her name didnt fit so she asked me to do her nickname. Once I'd done it I hated the font so I decided I'd put on some butterflies to distract from it a bit and now I quite like it lol. I will give it to her on Wednesday.

Shell number two of the set

The second shell of the three. I found one mistake when I was backstitching but oh well lol.

using some of my new stamps

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

This is a card I made the day before I went to China. I inked up a new stamp I bought myself with white ink and stamped it onto the purple base card. Then I stamped the square floral stamp onto white card, layered it onto matching purple card. Using the same pinky-purple ink I stamped some flowers over the white swirl background.

Next I attached a white strip to the base card, knotted a piece of ribbon and attached that to the middle, then attached the square over the top. That very day Pat came in to look through the cards and took that one away for her sister's birthday (Aunty Dawn) lol.

While I was away in China, I did this small cross-stitch of a shell. I bought three of them (semco), this one, a hermit crab shell and a starfish before I left. I'm currently doing the second shell. When they are done I'll frame them together for my bathroom which has a seaside theme.
